Google Top 10

July 30th, 2010

If you own a website you will know how hard it is to get people to visit it on a daily basis. You will probably also know that traffic and website status does not come automatically. It’s not something that you can get without either hard work or paying out lots of money.

In the past I have known webmasters spend thousands of dollars trying to get a site off the ground without any success. I have seen people try technique upon technique that just do not work. One webmaster I knew used to spend $100 per day in Google adwords, only to convert about 2 sales a week. Does this sound like something you are willing to try on the off chance it may work? Even if you have the best product on the market, “the next best thing”, it’s no use if nobody knows it exists.

When you want to find out information or you want to purchase something online, ask yourself, what do you do? Well if you are anything like me or most of the human race that own a PC or laptop, you search Google for what you want. Am I right?

Well Google registers about 2 billion searches per day, that’s a lot of people searching for what they want and need. What if you could be on the first page of Google for your product or website? Well to be honest if you were then your website will no longer be unknown or you would no longer be scraping by or spending lots of money on advertising. There is a way! Ok, so when you search Google you usually find what you want on the first page. So how did they get there? Well Google uses lots of little clever algorithms to determine which sites sit in the Google top 10 and which don’t. Some/all of those algorithms you can actually have an impact on by the way you build and promote your site.

Google first looks at your on page content and the way you have built your site to determine quality and that you are following the search engine rules (yes the search engines have rules). So in order to score high with Google you need to follow certain guidelines that they set. Google ranks a site based on over 200 SEO factors believe it or not. Now not everybody knows what they are, but there are optimization techniques you can use on your website to help with the ones we do know of. This is called On Page SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

Secondly Google looks at your site off page. This is called off page SEO. Google finds sites link to your and the quality and ranking of those sites. It also looks at the links that are coming to your site in another way to determine your Google rank. It looks at something called Page Rank. The higher the Page Rank of the site linking into yours the better your site will rank. The more of these links you get, and providing your On Page SEO follows guidelines, the better you will rank in the search engines. To rank in the Google top 10 you will need to follow both.

Google Optimisation

July 29th, 2010

When Google looks at a website to determine where to place it in its search results it considers two main things. One of the considerations is On Page SEO; the other is Off Page SEO. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is often the term used to shorten the phrase and make it more human and machine friendly.

Off Page SEO is generally speaking other websites that link to yours. Off Page SEO is one determining factor that Google looks for when ranking a site in their search engine. This is broken up into many different criteria. One of those is the quality a site that links to yours, if the website that links to yours is high in status, like a major successful website for example, this will have an impact on how Google looks at your website and where they rank you. Obviously many of these links will improve your websites positioning further.

Google also uses something that is more controllable for you as a webmaster, something that every webmaster should polish with every website they own. Some simple techniques can often get you ranking higher in the search engines almost instantly. I am talking about the other determining factor On Page SEO.

On Page SEO is basically optimizing your website for the search engines. To do this you need to operate by programming language rules like HTML for example and the search engine guidelines. Search engines in total use over 200 SEO factors. Obviously it would be impossible to optimize a website to follow them all. Some come naturally and you will find you website abides by many of these factors already but others need to be polished.

Now some On Page SEO ranking factors will always remain evasive and it is more or less impossible to abide by them all. Sometimes you will find polishing one factor means you are scoring lower in another factor, it can be very frustrating. The key is to abide by as many as possible. Most webmasters who optimize their websites do so by a series of educated guesses a long with what we know already. One recent On Page SEO factor is the websites loading speed. Google have said this will not hold a lot of weight in ranking but it is something they now consider when positioning a website. To overcome slow loading pages you can do simple things to cut down the size of your website, like smaller lower resolution images, hosting videos on third party sites and embedding them into yours rather than uploading and even keeping brief summaries of your content on your home page with click in options for more information.

Optimizing your website can take hours upon hours and most people skip On Page SEO in favour of Off Page SEO. This is a mistake people make far too often but always wonder why their website is not ranking well in Google. To have a website that is placed in the top 10 search results, On Page SEO needs to be looked into as well as Off Page. If not you could be sitting outside the top 10 until it is.

What Can You do About Your Site Search Engine Optimization

January 9th, 2010

Are you trying to figure out how can SEO help you to develop online business you are running? You might feel perplexed only by trying to understand search engine marketing glossary.

So what should you do to finally make your website be found by your targeted audience? Follow this article and discover some easy seo principles you can apply for your site.

Firstly, the content on your webpage should be relevant. In other words, use specific keywords and key phrases and make them viewable. It should not increase 2 percent, otherwise you risk it will be called a keyword cramming, which is very bad for your seo. Your keywords should be put in a way search engines can read them and that is your links, headings and alt tags for your images.

The second SEO principle is the structure of your site. Your page titles should always include your keywords, plus an idea of what kind of page they represent. For instance, if you are in the bird training niche, your About Us page may be titled: Bird training edge-About us. This tells the search engines that each page on your site is relevant and still gives your visitors an idea of where they are going when they click on your link.

Do not forget to insert keywords in Meta tag descriptions, try to do it in a way that solicits some kind of action to your visitors. Including a link to your site map will make search engine spiders index the website easier.

Finally, community relevance, which means a number of back links to your site. The more links to your website other popular sites place, the better. Keep in mind, you want those to be quality ones and at the authority websites related to your business.

When it comes to this, content delivery sites, forum postings, articles and press releases are the best places to start. Just be sure that the sites you link to do not use no follow tags, because these will not give you any credit for linking to them.

If you find that your site is lacking in these principles, you should commit a bit of time every day to improving them. SEO is not an overnight process, but if you are patient and persistent you will be able to come out on top.

To succeed in SEO one thing you need to keep in mind – focus on relevancy, not only on numbers. Relevancy is is the key to the search engines, more relevancy and popularity – the better is your SEO status. In contrary, if you care only about the numbers, it will lead you to be labeled as spam site, which you definitely dont want to happen.

Follow these simple principles to improve your SEO and you will see the result sooner than you can imagine.
